Mumbai–Pune In 48 Minutes High-Speed Rail Is A Part Of INR 23,926 Railway Budget Allocated To Maharashtra
Mumbai–Pune in 48 minutes plan includes the creation of new high-speed rail corridors, improved freight connectivity, and significant modernization efforts throughout the state. The proposed high-speed corridor will enable trains to travel at speeds of up to 350 km/h. The Mumbai-Pune route is one of the busiest intercity routes in India, accommodating daily commuters, business professionals, students, and tourists. Additionally, it provides important access to the scenic Western Ghats and various hill stations.

With travel times slashed to under an hour, the usage of this route could change significantly, allowing same-day round-trip and more efficient schedules for both business and leisure travelers. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has allocated INR 2.78 lakh crore for Railways, with INR 24,000 crore specifically designated for Maharashtra. The introduction of these high-speed connections is expected to bring substantial changes to travel in the region. Similar upgrades are also anticipated in other states.
