Sri Lanka Launches Digital Nomad Visa: Who Can Apply
Sri Lanka has introduced a Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) to draw in foreign professionals who want to live and work remotely in the country while catering to clients or companies located abroad. This move aims to establish Sri Lanka as a top choice for long-term digital living, longer stays, tourism expenditure, and global knowledge exchange.
To qualify for this visa, applicants must be foreign nationals aged 18 or older. The primary applicant should be engaged in remote work, freelancing, or running a business that is not registered in Sri Lanka but serves clients outside the country.
Additionally, the main applicant must have a minimum monthly income of $2,000 (INR 1,81,352.00) and for every dependent beyond two, an extra $500 must be remitted each month.
What Documents Do You Need
1. All applicants must complete and submit a Visa Application Form along with a request letter.
2. Required documents include a valid passport photocopy, two recent passport-sized photos, and certificates for marriage and birth, if applicable.
3. Additionally, submit a Security Clearance Form, Medical Clearance Report, Police Clearance Certificate, International Health Insurance, a recommendation from the Ministry of Digital Economy, and proof of minimum monthly remittance.
The visa issuance process begins with submitting the necessary documents to the Residence Visa Division of the Department of Immigration and Emigration. Once your documents are submitted, they will be reviewed to check if you meet the eligibility criteria and comply with all requirements.
If your application is approved, you will receive a visa endorsement in your passport. This visa is valid for one year, allowing you to stay during that period.
If you wish to extend your visa, you will need to submit the required documents again, including proof of tax registration from the Inland Revenue Department. Additionally, there is a fee of USD 500 per year for each applicant, spouse, and dependent.
