ToggleMumbai Flower Show: How To Reach Byculla Zoo By Air, Train, Bus, And More
Reaching Byculla Zoo By Air
The Byculla Zoo is located quite close to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), the main airport serving the city of Mumbai. The international airport is about 18 km away from the Byculla Zoo and enjoys excellent connectivity with many major domestic and international destinations.
From the airport, you can either use prepaid cabs, hire taxis or app-based cab services like Uber and Ola, or use the newly-inaugurated Metro Line 3 or Aqua Line to reach the zoo.
Reaching Byculla Zoo By Train
The Byculla Zoo is located just a stone’s throw away from the Byculla Railway Station on the Central Line. The Byculla Railway Station is one of the oldest railway stations of Mumbai, connecting the Southern-Central part of Mumbai to the Northern suburbs of the city on the Central Line.
Both ‘slow’ and ‘fast’ trains halt at the station; make sure to check train timings on the M-Indicator App. From outside the station exit on the east side, it takes only about 5 to 7 minutes of walking to reach the zoo.
If you’re using the Western Line, you can either interchange at Dadar (Western) to Dadar (Central) and then take a train to Byculla or alight at Mahalaxmi Station and then take a cab to the zoo.
If using the Harbour Line, you can alight at the Reay Road Station and then take a cab to reach the zoo.
Using The Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3
The Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3 is the newest addition to the city’s expanding network of metro rail infrastructure. Connecting Aarey JVLR in the North-Central part of the city to Cuffe Parade in the South, it has 27 stations stretched out over a distance of 33.5 km.
The nearest metro station to the Byculla Zoo is the Mahalaxmi Metro Station which is about 1.5 to 1.8 km away. From the metro station, it is best recommended to take a direct cab to reach the zoo.
Using Buses To Reach The Byculla Zoo
Utilizing Mumbai’s BEST bus network for travel is a great way of saving money on expensive cabs. However, note that buses might not always be available on time and are slower than trains.
If you’re planning to take a bus to reach the zoo, good news is that there is a dedicated bus stop right outside the zoo. The bus stop is known as ‘Jijamata Udyan’ and many bus routes from South Mumbai, North Mumbai, as well as Navi Mumbai halt here. A few of the bus routes that you can use to reach the zoo are – A-19, A-21, 50, 3, 22, 134, 126, 1, and 67. Use the M-Indicator, Chalo, or the Mumbai One App to get information on the bus routes, availability, timing, as well as online tickets.
Reaching Byculla Zoo By Road
Byculla Zoo lies directly on the Lalbaug Flyover part of the Eastern Express Highway. The latter is a major highway in the city that connects South Mumbai to the Northeastern suburbs like Mulund, Vikhroli, Ghatkopar, etc. If you’re driving from these suburbs, you can cut on travel time by using this route.
You can reach the zoo by road through a number of modes of transport – metered cabs, app-based cab services, buses, and bike taxis. You can also self-drive to the venue; there is a small parking area located here. However, we recommend preferring public transport over private vehicles as it is more economical, convenient, fast, and cheap!
